BORNO, Nigeria – The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of four officers following a fresh jihadist ambush on security forces in Borno State.
The incident was disclosed on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele.
The attack comes as the Nigerian Air Force continues intensified operations against insurgents. On Friday, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to defeating terrorists and safeguarding the country. During an operational visit to the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA at the 213 Forward Operating Base in Katsina, he praised the troops for their resilience and pledged sustained air support across all theatres.
Meanwhile, the Army Headquarters has debunked circulating reports alleging that a Brigade Commander was abducted. Describing the claim as fake news, the Army urged the public to disregard the rumour and continue to support the nation’s military personnel.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, paid tribute to the fallen officers and commended troops serving in one of the country’s toughest conflict zones. He described their sacrifice as a reminder of the dangers soldiers face daily while protecting national security.
“Their unflinching commitment, even in the face of grave danger, remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices being made by our gallant men and women to keep Nigeria safe,” the statement read.
Military operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters have intensified in recent weeks, with ground troops and air components conducting coordinated strikes across the North-East. Despite persistent threats, the Army maintains that it remains committed to restoring stability in affected communities.
