Gombe Gov, Inuwa Yahaya (m) at the flag off of the project
GOMBE, Nigeria – Gombe State has advanced its renewable energy expansion drive with the launch of a 1-megawatt solar mini-grid in Talasse, Balanga Local Government Area, a project expected to provide uninterrupted electricity to more than 8,000 households upon completion.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who flagged off the project on Thursday, said the initiative demonstrates the state’s commitment to clean energy development and equitable power access.
The project is implemented in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the World Bank, MIDS Dynamics, and other stakeholders.
“This project is a milestone in our energy diversification agenda,” the governor said. “For too long, communities like Talasse have remained disconnected from the national grid. Today, we are changing that narrative permanently.”
The mini-grid, scheduled for completion within four months, is designed to deliver reliable, affordable, and renewable energy capable of stimulating small businesses, agro-processing, and digital services in rural communities. Governor Yahaya said the Electricity Act 2023 has empowered states to determine their own power roadmaps.
“This intervention is only the beginning,” he added. “We will deploy additional solar grids to unserved and underserved communities across Gombe State.”
