OYO, Nigeria – The Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration among Local Action Committees on AIDS (LACA), development partners, and community structures in order to close emerging gaps in the state’s HIV response.
Speaking at OYSACA’s monthly monitoring and evaluation meeting in Ibadan on Wednesday, the agency’s Board Chairman, Dr Gbola Adetunji, said Oyo State has recorded progress in HIV testing and treatment uptake. However, he stressed that improvement is still needed in service integration, sustainability, community ownership, and data accuracy.
He announced that Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the procurement of HIV test kits and essential consumables to ensure uninterrupted services across public health facilities.
“We must deepen collaboration and strengthen supervision. Reports must reflect real service delivery outcomes. Our goal is to ensure interventions reach those who need them most, especially at community level,” he said.
State HIV/AIDS Programme Coordinator Dr Serifat Ibikunle assured that the Ministry of Health remains committed to achieving the global 95-95-95 HIV targets.
APIN Public Health Initiative’s Strategic Information Lead, Mrs. Juliabah Dada, said APIN currently supports HIV testing across local government areas and provides comprehensive care services at 52 facilities while improving monitoring and data quality systems.
OYSACA Coordinating Director, Dr Wale Falana, urged LACA managers to expand community enrolment into antiretroviral therapy programmes. “We need stronger data to accurately measure HIV prevalence and guide decision-making,” he said.
