LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a counterfeit drug smuggling network in Lagos, seizing fake malaria medicines worth ₦1.2 billion.
In a statement issued by the agency on Friday, it confirmed that 277 cartons of fake Malamal Forte malaria drugs, valued at over ₦1.2 billion, were intercepted at a warehouse in Ilasa-Oshodi.
The shipment, which originated from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China, was fraudulently labeled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg and falsely declared as spare parts.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stressed that the bust reflects the agency’s strengthened vigilance and collaboration with the Presidency and Federal Ministry of Health. She reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigerians from dangerous counterfeit and substandard medicines.
The latest seizure highlights the escalating battle against criminal drug trafficking networks, which continue to threaten public safety and undermine Nigeria’s healthcare system
