LAGOS, Nigeria – Five years after Nigeria’s #EndSARS protests, the Path of Peace Initiatives has renewed calls for justice for police officers brutally murdered during the unrest.
In a Monday statement, the group’s president, Dandy Eze, said: “The #EndSARS movement began as a cry against brutality but ended in chaos that took civilian and police lives alike.”
Eze condemned the killing of Sergeant Adegoke Ajibola and Corporal Rotimi Oladele in Oyo State, describing it as “a desecration of humanity.” Viral videos from October 8 2020 showed mobs burning and desecrating the officers’ remains.
“The silence that followed these killings is disturbing,” Eze stated. “Justice for slain officers is essential to national healing.”
The group urged the Oyo State Ministry of Justice to reopen investigations and ensure perpetrators face prosecution.
It also called for national reflection: “True reconciliation demands justice for all victims — civilians and officers alike.”
