Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi
LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported a record ₦1.3 trillion revenue for the first quarter of 2025, crediting the achievement to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi revealed this in a documentary marking the President’s second anniversary. “We collected ₦1.3 trillion in Q1 2025 alone — not because imports increased but because efficiency, transparency, and enforcement improved,” he said.
Adeniyi said the agency is finalising the $3.2 billion E-Customs Modernisation Project to digitise cargo clearance, surveillance, and payments nationwide. “Once operational, it could generate $250 billion over 20 years,” he noted.
He added that the new Single Window system had reduced clearance time from 21 days to about 7–10 days for compliant importers.
The NCS also recovered ₦64 billion from undervalued imports and dismantled major smuggling networks at Seme, Idiroko, Katsina, and Sokoto borders.
“We’re now using data and drones for real-time surveillance,” Adeniyi said. “Systemic leakages are being plugged effectively.”
He further announced fast-track lanes for agro-exports in partnership with the NEPC, revealing a 38 percent rise in formal exports in 2024.
