ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is investigating two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East, with both individuals placed in isolation pending laboratory results.

The agency disclosed this on Saturday, saying investigations and contact-tracing activities had begun to establish whether other people might have been exposed. It said the two individuals were being tested to determine their infection status, stressing that their classification as suspected cases did not mean they had been confirmed to have Ebola.

The NCDC said contact identification and listing were ongoing as part of efforts to monitor possible exposure and contain any potential spread. It urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, practise good sanitation and comply with public health advisories. “The public is advised to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities,” the agency said.

The centre said it would provide further updates as verified information became available. It advised the public to rely on official information and avoid treating suspected cases as confirmed infections before laboratory results are released.
