IBADAN, Nigeria – Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, have suspended their three-day warning strike and directed members to return to their duty posts on Thursday, paving the way for the resumption of services affected by the industrial action.
The Association of Resident Doctors at UCH communicated the decision on Thursday in a memo signed by the association’s President, Dr Uthman Adedeji, and General Secretary, Dr Mary Awodiji, followed resolutions reached at an emergency general meeting held on October 8.
According to the association, members had completed the three-day industrial action in accordance with the decisions taken at the meeting. The doctors were instructed to return promptly to their respective duty posts to support the uninterrupted delivery of medical services at the hospital.
The association also said it would provide further updates on agreed timelines in the coming days, suggesting that members would continue to receive information about subsequent developments.
The suspension of the warning strike is expected to support the resumption of normal activities among resident doctors at the teaching hospital. It also did not specify whether the suspension was conditional on further negotiations or whether the association had reached a final agreement with hospital management.
The emergency meeting held on October 8 provided the basis for the association’s decision to complete the three-day warning strike and direct members to resume work.
The association said it would communicate further information to members as the agreed timelines progressed.
The return-to-work directive marks the latest development in the dispute, although further details about the underlying demands and any resolutions reached with the hospital authorities remain unclear from the information provided.
