Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni
YOBE, Nigeria – Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the employment of 1,095 medical and allied health students undergoing training in higher institutions in Nigeria and abroad.
The approval comprises 294 medical students to be employed on Grade Level 07/2 and 801 allied health science students to be placed on Grade Level 05/2.
The governor’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued in Damaturu on Tuesday.
Mohammed said the employment would help reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians while providing an incentive for the students to complete their studies and eventually serve in government health facilities in Yobe. “This is to serve as an incentive to support the students to pursue their courses of study with vigour and commitment, and to serve in government health facilities after completion of their studies,” he said.
The government said the initiative was also designed to strengthen the state’s health workforce and improve service delivery.
Buni also approved the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for staff of eight state-owned tertiary institutions and other ministries, departments and agencies.
The beneficiary institutions include the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Gujba; Galtima Mai Kyari College of Health Science and Technology, Nguru; Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu; and College of Administration, Management and Technology, Potiskum.
Others are Mai Idris Alooma Polytechnic, Geidam; Atiku Abubakar College of Education and Legal Studies, Nguru; and Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua.
The governor also approved an upward review of entry points for veterinary medical officers in the state civil service.
Under the new arrangement, veterinary officers will progress through the approved salary structure from CONMESS 2/2 through the higher grade levels.
