KANO, Nigeria – The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano State has disclosed that it received 172 complaints of alleged human rights violations in September, with the majority involving women and children.
State Coordinator, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi said on Monday that 122 cases had been resolved, while 50 remained under investigation.
According to him, 130 of the cases involved child and women’s rights, while others related to domestic and physical violence.
“Thirty-two of the complaints were on abandonment of family responsibilities and domestic violence, while 10 cases involved economic, cultural, and labour rights,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the Commission also mediated several marital disputes, helping couples reach amicable settlements through counselling.
Abdullahi urged couples to embrace patience and understanding in family management to curb the rising cases of domestic-related violence.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, particularly women, children, and persons with disabilities, across the state.
“Our goal is to ensure that every Kano resident enjoys full protection under the law,” Abdullahi added.
