KOGI, Nigeria – Six people have died and two others sustained injuries in a road crash along the Kabba-Odo-Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The accident involved a truck and a commercial vehicle and occurred on Saturday, according to the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lawal Fagge.
Fagge confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with journalists on Sunday.
He attributed the crash to speeding and warned motorists against dangerous driving practices.
“It is unfortunate that six persons lost their lives as a result of this tragic incident involving a truck and another vehicle along the Kabba–Odo-Ape Road. We will continue to advise motorists to avoid speeding and unnecessary overtaking,” Fagge said.
He confirmed that two other people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash.
“I can confirm that six persons lost their lives, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries. We are appealing to motorists to avoid speeding and desist from driving while fatigued. This is very important in preventing road crashes,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Kabba.
The FRSC has repeatedly warned motorists that speeding, fatigue and dangerous overtaking can increase the risk of fatal road crashes.
The agency urged motorists to obey speed limits, avoid driving when fatigued and exercise caution when overtaking.
