Federal Unity Colleges Resume Monday as FG Assures Parents of School Safety

ABUJA, Nigeria – Parents and students preparing for the new academic session in Federal Unity Colleges have been assured of a safe resumption, with the Federal Government confirming that all 115 Federal Unity Colleges nationwide will reopen on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The Federal Ministry of Education said necessary arrangements have been made to support a smooth and secure commencement of academic activities, while relevant security agencies have been placed on heightened vigilance around the schools.

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, gave the assurance in a statement, saying the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s education agenda.

According to Alausa, relevant security agencies have been informed of the resumption arrangements and are maintaining heightened vigilance around Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.

He said the coordinated security measures are intended to protect students, staff and school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.

The minister urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with preparations for their children and wards to return to school on Monday as scheduled.

Alausa also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure an orderly and secure resumption.

He called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together to maintain a peaceful and supportive school environment.

“The safety and wellbeing of learners remain a shared responsibility,” the minister said.

The Federal Ministry of Education said it would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure the safe and smooth resumption of academic activities.
