5,000 Lagos Residents Receive Two-Year Free Health Insurance Under Ilera Eko Scheme

LAGOS, Nigeria – No fewer than 5,000 residents of Eti-Osa Constituency II have been enrolled in the Ilera Eko Standard Jaara Health Insurance Scheme under a two-year sponsorship by the lawmaker representing the constituency, Gbolahan Yishawu.
The initiative was launched on Wednesday at the Y-Arena Multipurpose Centre, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, as part of efforts to improve access to affordable healthcare and reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Speaking at the event, Yishawu said the programme was designed to encourage health insurance enrolment while easing the financial burden of healthcare on residents.
“Many people cannot afford healthcare and have to depend on others to pay medical bills. Through this insurance scheme, beneficiaries will either pay significantly less or, in some cases, receive treatment without additional costs,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that the intervention complements his constituency projects in education, ICT training and youth empowerment.
A representative of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Mr. Ramon, explained that beneficiaries would receive policy numbers enabling them to access treatment at their chosen healthcare facilities.
He added that newborn babies would automatically receive healthcare coverage for their first 28 days of life.
Beneficiaries commended the initiative, describing it as timely and urging the lawmaker to sustain similar healthcare interventions across the constituency.
