ABUJA, Nigeria – The WAEC GCE registration deadline has been extended to Friday, August 28, 2026, giving prospective candidates additional time to register for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announces the extension on Saturday through its official X account, urging candidates yet to complete their registration to take advantage of the additional period.
The examination, popularly known as WAEC GCE, is designed for candidates who are not enrolled in conventional secondary schools, including individuals seeking to obtain or improve their O’Level qualifications.
WAEC confirms that the examination will be conducted entirely as a Computer-Based Examination (CBE).
Registration for the examination opens on May 4, 2026, with the registration fee remaining ₦37,000.
The council says the examination is scheduled to be held between September and October 2026.
WAEC also advises intending candidates to visit the nearest WAEC office in their respective states to confirm approved examination towns before completing the registration process.
The extension provides another opportunity for eligible candidates who miss the earlier deadline to register before the process closes on August 28.
The council encourages all interested candidates to complete their registration early to avoid last-minute challenges.
