KWARA, Nigeria – The Kwara oxygen supply system at the Children’s Specialist Hospital, Centre Igboro, Ilorin, will be upgraded after the state government orders the delivery of the facility’s preferred oxygen cylinder sizes to improve patient care.
Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Abdulraheem Malik, issued the directive during a routine inspection of the hospital on Friday.
The visit assesses service delivery, infrastructure, staff performance, patient care and operational challenges across the facility.
Areas inspected include the Emergency Paediatric Unit, ventilation systems, electricity, water supply, drug availability and space management.
Malik says regular inspections help identify operational challenges and improve healthcare delivery.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that our hospitals provide safe, effective and patient-centred care.”
Chief Medical Director Dr Mosunmola Folorunsho raises concerns over difficulties caused by the supply of oxygen cylinders in unsuitable sizes.
In response, Malik directs the Board’s Engineering and Development Projects Department to ensure future supplies meet the hospital’s preferred specifications.
The Hospitals Management Board says the intervention will improve efficiency and guarantee timely oxygen delivery for critically ill patients.
Malik also assures hospital management that observations made during the inspection will be addressed within available resources.
He commends staff for their dedication and urges continued professionalism, discipline and prudent management of public resources.
