KADUNA, Nigeria – Kaduna North flood response receives a major boost as Christian Aid, with support from UNICEF and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), donates emergency materials to improve disaster preparedness in flood-prone communities.
The emergency supplies are presented to Kaduna North Local Government on Thursday during a ceremony at the council secretariat, where Christian Aid Programme Manager Abisola Alabi says the intervention is aimed at strengthening community response to flooding and other emergencies.
According to Alabi, the equipment will be deployed to three designated flood disaster focal points located at Kigo Road, Malali and Rafin Guza to improve emergency response during disasters.
The donated items include seven pairs of rain boots, six life jackets, six blankets, one first aid box, a 100-metre rescue rope and a megaphone.
“Each of the three focal points will receive two life jackets, two rain boots and two blankets,” Alabi says.
She adds that the first aid box, rescue rope and megaphone will support the Local Government Emergency Management Committee in coordinating emergency operations during flooding incidents.
Director of Social Sector Aisha Zarma, who receives the materials on behalf of Vice Chairman Ibrahim Ahmed, commends Christian Aid, UNICEF and KADSEMA for supporting vulnerable communities across Kaduna North.
Zarma assures the partners that the donated materials will be delivered to the designated flood response centres and used for their intended purpose.
She also reaffirms the council’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with humanitarian organisations, emergency management agencies and development partners to improve disaster preparedness.
According to her, sustained collaboration will help protect lives, reduce the impact of flooding and strengthen emergency response systems across Kaduna North Local Government Area.
The donation comes as emergency agencies continue to encourage proactive measures to reduce flood risks and improve community resilience during the rainy season.
