Ogun Urges Civil Servants to Prioritise Health for Better Productivity

OGUN, Nigeria – The Ogun State Government has urged public servants to make their physical and mental wellbeing a priority, saying a healthier workforce is essential for improved productivity and efficient public service delivery.
The call came as the state marked the 2026 Public Service Day, with sporting activities designed to encourage healthy lifestyles among workers.
Head of Service Mr. Olanrewaju Saka made the appeal on Wednesday during the football finals held as part of the week-long celebration.
Saka said the government remains committed to promoting the welfare of public servants and creating a work environment that supports healthier living.
He encouraged workers to embrace regular exercise beyond annual Public Service Day celebrations.
“Maintaining good health would not only benefit the individual workers but also enhance their productivity and contribute to a more efficient public service,” he said.
The event also featured indoor sporting competitions, including chess, scrabble, Ayo Olopon and table tennis, at the Arcade Ground in Oke-Mosan.
In the football finals, mainstream civil servants defeated parastatals in the women’s category, while the parastatals won the men’s title with a 2-0 victory.
Saka said the sporting activities were organised to promote teamwork, strengthen relationships among workers and encourage healthy living within the state public service.
He added that maintaining a physically fit workforce remains an important component of the government’s efforts to improve service delivery across ministries, departments and agencies.
