ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is deploying a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to help process pending, new and renewal applications from Nigerians living in the country.
The intervention follows a directive by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, to deploy officers from the NIS headquarters to the UK.
The team is scheduled to arrive in the UK on August 10, 2026, and will work with the Nigerian High Commission to process passport applications.
According to the NIS, officers will visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, allowing eligible applicants outside London to access the service.
The exercise is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, first-time applicants and existing passport holders with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to renew their documents.
Applicants are required to present completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.
The NIS said details of the cities, dates, venues and enrollment times would be announced separately.
It warned applicants not to travel to any location until the official schedule is released.
“Applicants are therefore advised not to proceed to any location until the relevant schedule has been officially communicated,” the agency said.
The service also advised Nigerians in the UK to monitor official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for updates.
The NIS said its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would remain operational throughout the intervention.
Home delivery of passports will also remain available to applicants.
For enquiries or complaints, the NIS provided passport.london@immigration.gov.ng and a WhatsApp-only line, +234 916 087 8000.
The agency said the intervention was part of efforts to improve passport service delivery to Nigerians in the diaspora.
