ABUJA, Nigeria – The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) has distanced itself from a purported media conference and inauguration of the World International Akara Day Festival allegedly scheduled to hold at its premises in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre, Dr Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, said the institution has no affiliation with the event and did not authorise the use of its name, facilities or officials.
“The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development is not in any way part of this event. The use of the Centre’s name, premises or officials in connection with the purported programme is unauthorised, false and misleading,” the statement said.
MBNCWD advised members of the public to disregard information relating to the event and avoid any financial or contractual dealings with its organisers, noting that the Centre would not be liable for any transactions arising from the purported programme.
The agency urged the public to rely solely on information released through its official communication channels regarding its activities and events.
