ABUJA, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims of a secret recruitment exercise, warning Nigerians to disregard a viral social media message alleging that the anti-graft agency is secretly recruiting new personnel.
The commission issued the clarification on Monday through its verified X account after the misleading post gained widespread attention online.
According to the viral message, prospective applicants were advised to “disturb your godfather” because the EFCC was allegedly conducting a covert recruitment exercise, with successful candidates expected to begin training next month.
The message also encouraged recipients to circulate anonymous notifications to others.
Reacting to the claim, the EFCC published a graphic prominently labelled “FAKE NEWS”, bearing the warning: “THIS IS FALSE NEWS. BEWARE!”
The commission stressed that no recruitment exercise is currently underway and urged Nigerians to rely only on official communication channels for information relating to employment opportunities.
The EFCC warned that fraudsters frequently exploit fake recruitment announcements to deceive job seekers and extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
It reiterated that whenever recruitment is approved, the process is publicly advertised through the commission’s official platforms and is conducted transparently, not through unofficial channels or third parties.
The anti-corruption agency advised Nigerians to verify all recruitment information before taking any action and cautioned against responding to fraudulent online messages promising employment.
The clarification comes amid recurring cases of cybercriminals impersonating government agencies to target unemployed Nigerians seeking job opportunities.
