LAGOS, Nigeria – The Federal Ministry of Works has banned commercial motorcycles and tricycles from the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as authorities move to protect the newly constructed road from misuse and deterioration.
The restriction, announced on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, takes effect this week and also prohibits indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the highway and bridges across Lagos State.
“The measures are necessary to preserve the road and ensure its long-term sustainability,” he said.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the federal government’s flagship infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation and economic activities along Nigeria’s coastline.
According to the ministry, the restrictions are necessary to prevent activities that could damage the road and reduce its lifespan.
Dare described the highway as a “world-class infrastructure” that requires proper maintenance and protection.
He warned that the ministry would not tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse along highway corridors and stressed that enforcement measures would be implemented against violators.
“Preserving the facility will enhance its lifespan and maintain its value to Nigerians,” Dare said.
