Sunday Igboho
IBADAN, Nigeria – Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has offered to deploy personnel of his private security outfit to public schools across Oyo State following recent school abductions that heightened concerns about student safety.
The proposal was conveyed in a letter dated June 9, 2026, and addressed to the Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Education.
The correspondence, signed by Igboho and the legal adviser of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Junaid Sanusi, requested details of public schools across the state to facilitate a planned security deployment.
According to the letter, the organisation intends to station at least two trained security personnel at each public school to strengthen surveillance and deter criminal attacks.
The proposed officers would monitor school environments, secure access points, liaise with school authorities and collaborate with local vigilante groups.
“Upon receipt of the requested information, at least two trained members of the outfit will be stationed at each public school identified across Oyo State,” the letter stated.
The organisation also advised the state government to consider fencing public schools to improve perimeter security and enhance the effectiveness of security personnel assigned to the facilities.
While commending ongoing rescue efforts by government and security agencies, the group stressed the need for preventive measures to avert future attacks.
“Time is of the essence. Every day without preventive deployment exposes our children and teachers to avoidable risk,” the letter added.
The proposal follows the abduction of pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026.
The incident renewed concerns over school safety and intensified calls for stronger protection measures for educational institutions across Oyo State.
