Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has warned that Permanent Secretaries who undermined due process during the state’s six-month emergency rule will be held accountable for their actions.
Fubara issued the warning Friday while swearing in Austin Ezekiel-Hart as a new Permanent Secretary at Government House, Port Harcourt.
He said records of past misconduct had been documented and would be revisited “at the appropriate time.”
“I have decided this time around I won’t be doing too much talking. I would like actions to speak for us. This appointment you got today is because you chose to be a professional,” Fubara said.
The governor stressed that he had never asked officials to please him personally, but to simply uphold the rules of service. “For those Permanent Secretaries who supported illegality, your punishment will come. Just be prepared,” he said.
Fubara clarified that while the emergency situation forced difficult choices, officials who deliberately ignored procedures would face consequences. “The records will be there, and at the right time, I’ll bring them up one after the other against you,” he said.
The swearing-in ceremony comes amid growing scrutiny of how senior officials handled governance challenges under the emergency rule.
