OYO, Nigeria – A kidnapped teacher from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has been brutally killed by suspected bandits, deepening fears over the safety of remaining captives.
The victim, identified as Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly beheaded in a disturbing video allegedly released by the abductors on Sunday.
The footage, which circulated widely on Telegram and other social media platforms, showed the teacher tied up and forced to speak before he was killed.
The killing has sparked outrage and renewed anxiety across Oyo State as residents demand urgent action from security agencies and the state government.
Confirming the incident on Monday, Suleimon Olanrewaju said Governor Seyi Makinde had expressed condolences to the victim’s family.
Olanrewaju disclosed that the government was deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to secure the release of the remaining victims.
“So, please, there may not be quick fixes, but we will continue to endeavour to push ourselves to the limit to resolve this quickly,” he said.
The government also confirmed the arrest of about six suspects linked to the abduction.
According to Olanrewaju, some of the suspects are believed to be informants and logistics suppliers assisting the kidnappers.
He further revealed that soldiers, Amotekun operatives and local vigilantes involved in rescue efforts lost their lives after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices planted by the abductors.
The government said injured security personnel were responding positively to treatment.
Gunmen invaded the school on May 15 and abducted the principal, teachers and several students during the attack.
The incident has intensified concerns over worsening insecurity, school kidnappings and terrorist violence across parts of Nigeria.
