LAGOS, Nigeria – A total of 180 stranded Nigerians has safely returned home from Libya through a joint operation between the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
NEMA on Wednesday confirmed that the returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on November 11, 2025, aboard an Air Libya flight (5A-BAE) at about 7:00 p.m.
The group comprised 147 adults (45 males, 102 females), 19 children, and 14 infants. Forty-six were found with medical conditions and immediately received medical care upon arrival.
Officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation to ensure proper profiling and reintegration.
In a statement, NEMA said the operation reflects the Federal Government’s “sustained commitment to safe, dignified, and voluntary repatriation” of Nigerians stranded abroad.
The returnees were given food, potable water, medical care, counselling, logistics support, and temporary accommodation.
“This seamless coordination underscores our continued effort to uphold the welfare and dignity of Nigerian citizens,” NEMA added.
