LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the safe evacuation of 148 Nigerians from Sudan amid the country’s ongoing conflict that has displaced millions.
In a statement on Saturday, NEMA said the returnees arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. aboard a chartered Tarco Aviation flight.
The group comprised 25 adult men, 27 adult women, 39 boys, and 57 girls. On arrival, they were conveyed to Chila Hotel for profiling and documentation by relevant authorities.
“The returnees were not enrolled in any reintegration programme and were discharged and given transport fare through ATM cards for withdrawals shortly after documentation and profiling,” the agency stated.
NEMA stressed that the repatriation exercise was “well-coordinated and successfully executed”, ensuring the safety and comfort of all evacuees.
The agency also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens trapped in conflict zones.
Working with international partners, NEMA said it continues to monitor the escalating crisis in Sudan, which has devastated infrastructure and forced millions of people from their homes.
