ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the University of Ilorin begin discussions on a potential partnership aimed at expanding access to quality basic education.
UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba hosted the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
The meeting focuses on improving access to primary and junior secondary education within the university community and surrounding areas.
Garba describes the visit as productive and emphasises the importance of institutional collaboration in strengthening Nigeria’s education system.
“Partnerships like this remain vital to building a stronger and more inclusive education system for our children,” she says.
Officials say the discussions explore possible support for expanding basic education facilities and improving learning infrastructure around the university environment.
Professor Egbewole reiterates the university’s commitment to working with national education agencies to enhance learning opportunities for young Nigerians.
Education analysts say partnerships between federal agencies and universities could help address infrastructure gaps and improve the quality of foundational education across the country.
The talks signal a shared commitment to improving Nigeria’s education sector through targeted cooperation and resource sharing.
