President Tinubu and Olatunji Disu at State House Abuja
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to swear in Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police on Wednesday following unanimous ratification by the Nigeria Police Council.
The decision, confirmed in a statement on Monday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, clears the way for Disu’s formal assumption of office during the Federal Executive Council meeting.
The council meeting, held at the State House, is presided over by President Tinubu and attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors and senior security officials, in line with constitutional provisions.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praises Disu’s crime-fighting record, citing his tenure as commander of the Rapid Response Squad between 2015 and 2021.
Disu, appointed acting IGP on February 25, 2026, succeeds Kayode Egbetokun, who recently resigned. A career officer, Disu previously served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
