ABUJA, Nigeria – The Presidency has reiterated Nigeria’s goal of becoming a gas-powered economy by 2030 following a strategic meeting between NUPRC CEO Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo.
In a statement on Saturday, the Presidency said the meeting, held Friday, aimed to accelerate gas development, deepen regulatory alignment, and end routine gas flaring nationwide.
Mrs Eyesan confirmed NUPRC’s full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s energy transition agenda, noting that gas development is a critical driver of economic growth, industrialisation, and energy security. “Under my leadership, the NUPRC remains committed to advancing gas development and eliminating routine gas flaring, aligning with the Federal Government’s 2030 vision,” she stated.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Ministry and NUPRC, unlocking Nigeria’s gas potential, attracting investment, and ensuring policy effectiveness. Minister Ekpo welcomed NUPRC’s commitment, highlighting the importance of regulatory efficiency in meeting Nigeria’s gas expansion targets.
The Presidency reaffirmed its support for institutions driving clean energy transition, reducing environmental harm from gas flaring while improving domestic energy access.
“Our commitment to gas development remains unwavering, ensuring Nigeria harnesses its energy potential responsibly,” the statement said.
