ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force announces it will resume nationwide enforcement of tinted vehicle glass regulations from January 2, 2026, citing rising criminal activities linked to unauthorised use.
In a statement issued on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin says the police never receive a court order stopping enforcement but suspend operations earlier to allow motorists time to obtain valid permits.
“Enforcement of tinted glass permits will resume on 2nd January 2026,” Hundeyin states, adding that criminals increasingly exploit illegally tinted vehicles to conceal their identities.
Police link the vehicles to armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country, describing the trend as a growing threat to public safety.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun assures Nigerians that the renewed enforcement will be professional and citizen-focused. “The Force remains committed to promoting public safety and upholding the rule of law while working collaboratively with stakeholders to keep Nigeria secure,” Egbetokun says.
The police urge motorists who require tinted glass for medical or security reasons to apply through official channels and carry valid permits at all times.
Authorities warn that officers will no longer tolerate non-compliance after the grace period, stressing that the exercise targets crime prevention rather than revenue generation.
