AKURE, Nigeria – The Ondo State Police Command arrests multiple suspects linked to traffic violations, assault and the abduction of a traffic officer in separate incidents across Akure.
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimohon Saturday says the arrests follow coordinated operations after distress alerts in the state capital.
In one incident, a driver allegedly flees with Senior Traffic Warden Kehinde Oliniju inside the vehicle after being stopped for a traffic violation.
Officers from the Fanibi Division track and intercept the vehicle at Winners Chapel Junction, rescuing the officer unharmed and arresting the suspects.
In a separate case, a patrol team stops a vehicle driving against traffic in Oba-Ile, where a female suspect allegedly assaults an officer while resisting arrest.
“She attempts to evade detention but is later apprehended,” Jimoh says, adding that efforts are ongoing to track her accomplice.
All suspects have been charged in court.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal commends officers for their swift response.
“Our officers acted professionally to ensure public safety,” he says, warning motorists against violations and aggression toward law enforcement.
Authorities urge residents to comply with traffic rules and support security efforts.
