AKURE, Nigeria – Nurses in Ondo State threaten to boycott night shifts following a violent attack on a health facility, raising concerns over staff safety and service disruption.
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives say the move follows an invasion of Oke Ijebu Health Centre by armed assailants.
Chairman Felix Orobode on Sunday described the incident as alarming.
“For this to happen in the heart of Akure shows serious security challenges,” he says.
Staff are reportedly assaulted, with some abducted and later found abandoned.
Orobode warns that inadequate security could deter healthcare workers from attending night duties, risking service delivery.
“The government must act now. Security of lives is paramount,” he adds.
The association calls for urgent security upgrades across health facilities to prevent further attacks.
