ONDO, Nigeria – The Ondo State Government seals a construction site in Akure after a two-storey building collapses, injuring several workers.
The incident occurred around 3:30 pm at Adegbola area, prompting swift action from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Commissioner Sunday Olajide, who visits the site hours later, orders an immediate shutdown and announces a full investigation.
“This is a strong warning to developers to obtain approvals and follow building standards,” Olajide says.
He confirms that no fatalities occur but expresses concern over injuries sustained by site workers. Emergency responders evacuate victims to nearby hospitals.
The government says further sanctions will depend on investigation findings, as authorities intensify enforcement against unsafe construction practices.
