OGUN, Nigeria – Residents of Imala in Abeokuta North, Ogun State, intensify calls for urgent government intervention over a deteriorating 7.5-kilometre road linking the community to Abeokuta.
The largely agrarian community warns that worsening road conditions are crippling economic activities, especially during the rainy season when sections become impassable.
In a statement on Monday, community coordinator Steven Adetomiwa says repeated appeals have yielded no response.
“The road, constructed in the 1950s under Obafemi Awolowo, has fallen into disrepair, limiting access to markets and essential services,” he says.
Residents urge Governor Dapo Abiodun to prioritise reconstruction, warning that delays could deepen hardship and worsen rural isolation.
