Chief Executive, NUPRC, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, (NUPRC) warns the public against a growing fraud scheme exploiting its name to solicit payments for non-existent contracts.
The Commission who gave the warning on Monday say criminal syndicates are circulating fake procurement offers on social media, falsely claiming they originate from the Commission.
Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan issues the warning through the agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, stressing that the fraudsters use name-dropping and misinformation to extort unsuspecting individuals and businesses.
“These unscrupulous individuals deliberately mislead members of the public with the sole intention of extorting money,” Akinkuotu says, adding that the perpetrators have been identified and must desist immediately.
Eyesan clarifies that all NUPRC contracts follow transparent procedures in line with the Public Procurement Act 2007, with no third party authorised to facilitate deals outside official channels.
“Anyone who transacts with intermediaries in pursuit of imaginary advantages does so entirely at their own risk,” she warns.
The Commission urges contractors and the public to rely only on its official website and national newspapers for verified tenders, advising that offers from informal platforms should be treated as fraudulent and reported promptly.
