Lagos, Nigeria – Nigeria recorded one of the strongest month-on-month oil production increases among OPEC members in November 2025, according to the December 2025 OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report, which stated that the country “pumped 1.436 million barrels per day in November,” up from 1.401 mbpd in October.
The report sighted by Africa Health Report (AHR) on Friday attributes the 35,000-barrel growth—Nigeria’s biggest recent monthly gain—to improved security and operational stability across major oil terminals.
Despite the progress, Nigeria again fell short of its 1.5 mbpd OPEC quota, marking the fourth consecutive month of underperformance.
Production had slumped in August and September due to maintenance and labour disruptions but began rebounding in October. Officials say the gradual recovery shows efforts to restore full capacity, even though output remains below target.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, said the country would formally seek a quota increase, insisting that the current threshold
“no longer reflects Nigeria’s true production potential.” According to him, “Nigeria is capable of producing at least two million barrels per day,” a position he reiterated as output fell from above 1.5 mbpd in July to around 1.39 mbpd by September before edging upward again.
