CALABAR, Nigeria – Chief of the Naval Staff Idi Abbas pledges to complete ongoing and abandoned projects to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime security and operational capacity.
Speaking at the Naval War College, Abbas says the initiative aligns with the Nigerian Navy Strategic Plan 2021–2030, focusing on fleet readiness, surveillance and technological advancement.
“Our priority is to consolidate reforms and enhance operational preparedness,” he says.
He highlights key projects, including the Naval War College permanent site, a naval hotel, and a proposed School of Nursing, alongside plans for a Leadership Academy and Cyber Command unit.
Abbas also emphasises personnel welfare, inter-agency collaboration and regional partnerships as critical to achieving maritime security goals.
Commandant Mohammed Nuye urges course participants to apply knowledge gained, noting the programme includes officers from Nigeria and international partners.
Security analysts say the reforms could enhance maritime governance, protect economic assets and support Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions.
