ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria formally endorses wide-ranging institutional reforms proposed by the African Union, targeting stronger peace and security mechanisms, improved governance and inclusive economic growth.
The endorsement was delivered at the 39th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing President Bola Tinubu. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs releases Nigeria’s position on Sunday.
Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar says Nigeria supports reforms aimed at boosting domestic and regional resource mobilisation, reducing inequality and strengthening democratic institutions. He adds that partnerships with international financial institutions and the private sector remain critical for affordable development financing.
Nigeria’s backing underscores its leadership role in advocating a more effective and financially resilient AU capable of addressing security crises and driving continental transformation.
On the sidelines of the summit, Tuggar meets Baroness Chapman to discuss preparations for President Tinubu’s planned state visit to the United Kingdom and ways to deepen cooperation on security, governance and sustainable growth.
