MINNA, Nigeria – The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Thursday honoured outstanding staff, retirees, and top-performing students during its 2024 Annual Staff Productivity Awards in Minna.
Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, said the ceremony reflects NECO’s culture of excellence. “Excellence is the heartbeat of NECO because what we do shapes Nigeria’s progress. By rewarding diligence, we reaffirm our mission of credible, fair assessments,” he said.
Awards included the Outstanding Public Service Award, Lifetime Achievement for retirees, Excellence in Integrity, and Student Excellence Awards. Certificates of Service went to 45 retirees, while 61 staff received awards for dedication.
Students recognised included Nwachukwu Victor Ikechukwu of St Paul’s Academy, Jos, and Adeyemo Emmanuella Adedamola of Our God Reigns Crystal School, Ota, for outstanding SSCE results. BECE awards went to Charles Brian Uzoma and Awanbor Omoriyekemwen Claire of Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin, while NCEE awards honoured Balogun Farian Ajibola and Iyasei Ifeanyichukwu Victory.
Wushishi hailed NECO’s workforce as “unsung heroes” and urged students to sustain their pursuit of knowledge.
Chairman of the event, Hon. Yakubu Mohammed Kolo, praised NECO for institutionalising recognition. “Excellence is a choice and a discipline. Recognition motivates people to go beyond the ordinary,” he said.
