LAGOS, Nigeria – Transport authorities in Lagos warn of strict enforcement as unauthorised vehicles increasingly invade Bus Rapid Transit lanes, threatening commuter safety and efficiency.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority identifies offenders ranging from private motorists to some government and security vehicles.
The agency reiterates that BRT corridors are reserved exclusively for regulated buses, with exceptions only for emergency responders under critical conditions.
“Unauthorised use disrupts operations, endangers passengers, and contributes to congestion,” LAMATA states.
Officials warn that violations will attract penalties, including fines, vehicle impoundment, and prosecution under Lagos traffic laws.
“All offenders, regardless of status, will be apprehended and prosecuted,” the authority adds.
LAMATA calls for compliance from all road users, stressing that adherence is essential to maintaining a safe and efficient urban transport system.
The crackdown signals a renewed push to protect Lagos’ mass transit infrastructure amid rising pressure on city mobility.
