LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State launches a major onboarding drive for newly recruited health workers as part of efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and expand access across communities.
The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board began onboarding personnel under the Human Capital Opportunity for Prosperity and Equity–Primary Healthcare (HOPE–PHC) project on February 13, 2026. The programme is held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ikeja and runs until February 16.
Permanent Secretary Dr Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa in a statement on Saturday says the initiative targets manpower development, improved service delivery and stronger primary healthcare systems. He explains that recruiting competent professionals remains central to achieving universal health coverage and providing “accessible, affordable and equitable healthcare” for residents.
Mustafa urges the new workers to uphold professionalism and compassion, noting that they represent the frontline of government healthcare. “Your conduct and work ethic will help build public trust and improve maternal and child health outcomes,” he says.
According to officials, the onboarding equips staff with essential skills, orientation and teamwork principles needed for community-focused care, reinforcing the state’s broader health reform agenda.
