OGUN, Nigeria – Four people are killed and eight injured after a commercial bus crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway following a tyre burst linked to excessive speed, authorities say.
The accident occurred around 9:18 p.m. near Christopher University, involving a Toyota Hiace bus carrying 13 passengers.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, the driver loses control after a tyre failure.
“The incident occurred… directly in front of Christopher University,” says FRSC spokesperson Odunsi Afolabi.
Of the 13 occupants, four adult males die at the scene, while eight others sustain injuries.
FRSC rescue teams arrive within minutes, evacuating victims to Famobis Hospital, while the deceased are deposited at Idera Morgue.
The wreckage and belongings are handed over to police for investigation.
Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin urges motorists to obey speed limits and regularly inspect their vehicles.
Authorities warn that tyre failure combined with speeding remains a leading cause of fatal crashes on Nigerian highways.
Road safety experts continue to call for stricter enforcement and public awareness to reduce preventable accidents.
