LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government announces a six-week repair programme on Apongbon Bridge, introducing phased traffic diversions to fix failed sections of the strategic transport link.
In a statement on Wednesday, Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi says the repairs, handled by the Federal Ministry of Works, begin on February 5 and end March 19, 2026.
The project targets damaged asphalt along the service lane and main carriageway connecting Inner Marina, Eko Bridge and Third Mainland Bridge.
“To ensure public safety and smooth execution, sections of the road will be temporarily closed in phases,” Osiyemi says.
He explains that work will start on the Apongbon service lane before extending to inbound and outbound sections. Motorists from Inner Marina are advised to divert through Adeniji Adele Road and Ebute Ero, while traffic from Victoria Island and Third Mainland Bridge will connect through Eko Bridge.
The government says the phased approach aims to minimise disruption while maintaining traffic flow across Lagos Island.
Apongbon Bridge remains a critical corridor linking major commercial and residential districts, and officials urge motorists to comply with traffic management directives.
The state assures commuters that traffic officers will be deployed to manage diversions throughout the repair period.
