KANO, Nigeria – Health journalists in Kano State have launched a unified network aimed at strengthening public health reporting and amplifying advocacy on critical healthcare issues affecting communities across the state.
The Kano Health Journalists Network (KAHJON) was officially inaugurated on Saturday with stakeholders highlighting the need for coordinated media engagement to improve public health outcomes.
Facilitated by the International Society of Media in Public Health, the initiative brings together existing specialised media groups into a single platform focused on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, nutrition, immunisation and gender-related issues.
Executive Director of ISMPH, Moji Makanjoula, represented by Programme Director Solomon Dogo, described the merger as a strategic step towards improving collaboration. Kano Health Journalists Unite for Stronger Advocacy
“The meeting is for us to align and come together as a unified network to report on maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, polio, nutrition and other public health concerns,” Dogo said.
“We want development partners to engage a unified network rather than fragmented groups.”
State Programme Officer of ISMPH, Sabuwa Yahaya, said the platform would enable journalists to speak with one voice on key health issues.
Similarly, Jibrin Giginyu praised the initiative for strengthening health advocacy and bridging information gaps between communities and development partners.
The event concluded with the inauguration of KAHJON’s leadership, which will oversee the network’s activities and stakeholder engagements.
