Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State Government demolishes several illegal structures in the Sharada area as authorities intensify enforcement against unauthorised developments violating urban planning laws.
The demolition, carried out on Tuesday within the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) estate in Gwale Local Government Area, targets buildings under construction on land officially designated as recreational space.
Leading the operation, the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Abduljabar Umar, says the construction violates planning regulations and threatens public amenities reserved for residents.
“We are a law-abiding state, and there are laws guiding any development in Kano State,” Umar says during the exercise. Kano Demolishes Illegal Buildings Encroaching Recreational Land In Sharada Estate
He stresses that no individual or organisation can begin construction without first obtaining approval from the Kano State Development Authority.
Authorities warn that those responsible for the encroachment may face prosecution, adding that surveillance will continue to prevent future attempts to convert community leisure land into private developments.
Umar also reassures residents that the government remains committed to preserving public spaces and says the affected site will soon be developed into a recreational park for the community.
He adds that land documentation for the site is undergoing further review to ensure the property remains strictly reserved for recreational use.
The enforcement action forms part of broader efforts by the state government to restore compliance with urban development regulations and protect designated public infrastructure within residential layouts.
