Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani
KADUNA, Nigeria – Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani sets 2026 as the deadline for universal access to clean water, announcing up to N100 billion in investments to revive a sector he describes as long neglected.
Speaking during a visit by the National Water Resources Institute, Sani says water production rises from eight percent to over 30 percent within two and a half years, following extensive infrastructure rehabilitation.
“When we assumed office, treatment plants were dormant and pipelines compromised,” the governor says. “The sector was in deep distress.”
The administration earmarks between N93bn and N100bn from 2024 to 2027, covering pipeline replacement, treatment chemicals and electricity debts crippling pumping stations.
Sani confirms payment of N1.3bn in power arrears and clearance of N900m in salary backlogs owed to Kaduna Water Corporation staff, stressing that workforce welfare underpins reform success.
Beyond infrastructure, the government allocates land for housing projects targeting water sector professionals and approves new training centres in Zaria and Kachia to address skills shortages.
NWRI Director-General Dr Abduljalal Danbaba pledges subsidised training, noting the institute’s designation as a World Meteorological Centre in Africa.
