Governor Uba Sani at the groundbreaking of Kaduna’s inter-state bus terminal
KADUNA, Nigeria – Kaduna State launches construction of what Governor Uba Sani describes as Nigeria’s largest inter-state bus terminal, marking a major step in transport reform, security enhancement and economic expansion.
The governor on Sunday performs the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ultra-Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal along the Eastern Bypass in Chikun Local Government Area, announcing that the facility will span 20 hectares and accommodate over 5,000 vehicles.
Designed as a dual terminal, the complex features intelligent traffic systems, advanced surveillance infrastructure, escalators and elevators to ensure accessibility for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
“The terminal will include refuelling stations for petrol, diesel and compressed natural gas,” Sani says, positioning Kaduna as a leader in sustainable transport innovation.
A three-star hotel, retail outlets and service areas will form part of the project, which the governor describes as “a fully integrated, safe and future-ready mobility ecosystem.”
Sani says the terminal will decongest Kaduna metropolis, improve connectivity and strengthen security by consolidating unregulated motor parks into a professionally managed hub.
“Thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created,” he says, adding that modern transport infrastructure reduces vulnerabilities that fuel crime.
The governor highlights ongoing reforms, including 100 free CNG buses deployed since mid-2025, which he says have transported 1.4 million passengers and saved commuters nearly ₦1.5 billion.
He also announces plans to commence the Kaduna Light Rail Project by March 2026, featuring rail lines and a Bus Rapid Transit corridor.
Kaduna recently ranks second nationally for sustainable urban mobility, Sani notes, reinforcing the state’s ambition to become a regional transport hub.
