ABUJA, Nigeria – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted a viral report claiming it is no longer a requirement for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, describing the publication as “malicious and preposterous.”
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB dismissed the report published by Phonix.browser.com on 16 October 2025, titled “JAMB is no longer a prerequisite for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.”
Benjamin clarified that the Minister of Education, Dr. Mauruf Alausa, never made such pronouncement, stressing that the claim was a misrepresentation of the federal government’s efforts to expand access to higher education under the initiative “Renewed Hope in Action: Federal Government Streamlines Admission Requirements to Expand Access to Tertiary Education.”
“The statement attributed to the Honourable Minister is false and misleading. The public should disregard it entirely,” JAMB stated.
Reaffirming the Board’s commitment to its statutory responsibilities, Benjamin added: “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board remains the legally recognised body responsible for coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.”
He urged the public to rely only on verified updates from JAMB’s official platforms and cautioned against spreading false information capable of undermining public trust in the nation’s education system.
