Lagos, Nigeria – The Nigeria Immigration Service orders an investigation into alleged extortion along the Lagos-Seme border, relieving implicated officers of their duties amid growing public outcry.
Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap directs the immediate action following viral reports and videos accusing personnel of misconduct at the busy crossing.
In a Friday statement issued by spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi, the Service condemns the allegations, describing them as a breach of its code of conduct.
“We will identify and discipline all officers found culpable,” the statement says.
While the number of affected officers remains undisclosed, authorities confirm that multiple commands along the corridor are under review.
The Lagos-Seme route, a key gateway linking Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, has long faced complaints from commuters and traders over harassment and illegal charges.
Recent online footage reignites scrutiny, prompting swift intervention by the agency.
The Service reiterates its commitment to professionalism, transparency and accountability, urging the public to report misconduct through official channels.
Nandap emphasises that discipline remains central to her leadership, warning officers to uphold the integrity of the agency at all times.
“We will not tolerate actions that undermine public trust,” she says.
