Aliko Dangote
ABUJA, Nigeria –The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC) has commenced investigation into allegations of financial impropriety against, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Ahmed Farouk following a formal complaint by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote.
In a release signed by commission’s spokesperson, Mr. John Okor Odey, on their official X account on Tuesday stated that, through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, Dangote submitted the petition dated December 16th, alleging that Farouk maintains a lifestyle inconsistent with his earnings as a public officer.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission writes to confirm that it received a formal petition today, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer. The petition is against the CEO of the NMDPRA, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed. The ICPC wishes to state that the petition will be duly investigated.”
The Dangote Group president requested the ICPC to arrest, investigate, and prosecute the NMDPRA chief over allegations of abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, and unlawful diversion of public funds.
At the heart of the controversy is a proposed N200 billion payments of bridging claims to petroleum marketers, which industry watchers say lacks adequate documentation and transparency.
According to industry insiders, the regulatory authority plans to settle approximately N250 billion in legacy obligations spanning 2023, 2024, and 2025, despite glaring data inconsistencies. “Marketers frequently submit claims that don’t match the levies paid per litre, with discrepancies reaching 47 percent. The regulator cannot provide empirical evidence to justify nearly half of these claims when cross-referenced with verified levies from depot owners and importers. This points to potentially fraudulent activities,” an industry source revealed.
